The numbers make Shark Valley sound gentle: a paved, level loop and an observation tower halfway around. The landscape says otherwise. Heat, lightning and exposed miles matter, while alligators and birds make stopping irresistible. The best pace is observant and conservative, with water carried from the start and plenty of space given to every animal beside the road.
